About
Settlements and Judgements provide fiscal resources to settle claims and pay judgements in most types of civil cases against the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. If the Commonwealth department does not have legally available funds, then the Settlement or Judgment and other required documentation is required to be submitted to the Office of the Comptroller for approval and put in line for payment from the Settlement and Judgment Reserve Account. In accordance with Section 2 of Chapter 28 of the Massachusetts General Laws, the Office of the Comptroller is required to submit quarterly reports each fiscal year on payments from the Settlements and Judgements Reserve account. These reports provide information on payees, amounts, and the associated Commonwealth of Massachusetts department or agency for settlements and judgments paid from appropriation account 1599-3384.
This information is also posted quarterly on the Office of the Comptroller’s CTHRU Settlements and Judgments portal.
